I like how the Raptor 50 flys and the simplicity of maintenance. So a scale body for the R50 seemed like a good idea. Several modelers on the net have installed the Funkey 46 size Long Ranger on the R50 mechs with great success. This set a good precedent.
I scoured the web and ended up picking this scheme:
I got the fuse and mechs. The mechs are first and will undergo test flights to weed out any bugs.
The fuselage after a quick sand and prime. The wood support for the mechs are Gooped inside.
Here are a few pics during the painting process. I'm using Pactra Racing Finish laquers in small spraycans. It's the only paint that I could find that comes close to the purple. Those little cans get expensive. I needed 3 1/2 cans for the purple and 3 cans for the white. At over U$4 a can it adds up. The finish is very nice. I used flexible bumper primer from Autozone as base.
Here is an overall side view. The purple required silver underneath so the N4CQ was stick on letters peeled off after the purple was shot. The round antenna underneath is a spraycan top reinforced with balsa and Gooped to the fuse.
Clear coating and then adding the two antennas and wire cutter is next.
Here are some static pics of the final result. Taken at the SHARKS funfly.
A couple of big changes. The Long Ranger is now Electric powered.
